How to Make Color Palettes in Procreate

Wonder how to make color palettes in Procreate? In today’s tutorial, I walk you through my exact steps to create your own color palettes.

FIND INSPIRATION

Start off by finding some inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram etc. One of my favorite places on Instagram to find inspiration for color palettes is @colorpalette.cinema. Their posts are inspired by movies and the color palettes are generated off of them.

SELECT 1 TO 4 IMAGES

Pick 1-4 palettes from @colorpalette.cinema based on what you are painting and take a screenshot of each.

There are other tools that you can use to automatically generate colors off of the picture (Canva) or explore the most popular color palettes (Coolors)

You can either use all 4 palettes to create your own or just work off of one of these and work with a tighter, smaller palette. Our color palette will be derived from them.

NAVIGATE TO PROCREATE

  1. On the top left corner, click on the wrench icon and hit ‘Insert a Photo’

  2. Deselect it and then, repeat step a) for the second, third and fourth images.

  3. Then, hide all of the other three layers.

  4. Go to the Color Panel on the top right corner.

  5. Hit the ‘+’ sign to start a new palette and rename it.

  6. Now, you can eye-drop the colors from the image, go to the ‘square box on the left bar to enable a circle on the image.

  7. Tap and move the circle on the image to pick a color.

  8. Go to the color palette layer (top right corner) and tap onto the first empty box in the new color palette section to drop the color in.

  9. Then, go back and repeat the process until you have completed your color palette.

If you want to pull colors from the other images, follow step c) by hiding the other three images and select the one you want to pick the colors from and repeat the process.

You will have a beautiful color palette in no time!
